Sr. Director, Reliability Engineering

Satellite Development

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

This position requires an experienced engineering leader and an established expert in reliability engineering of complex space systems.

  • Build and lead a team of Reliability Engineering experts to ensure high reliability requirements are met for Satellite constellation.
  • Define reliability allocations across all components and sub-systems to meet overall system goals, and fault tolerance architecture.
  • Drive implementation of probabilistic modeling techniques for overall system reliability predictions:
    • Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis,
    • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA),
    • Reliability Block Diagram analysis (RBD),
    • Single Event Upset / Multiple Bit Upset  (SEU/MBU) analysis.
  • Apply environmental predictions from mission operation simulations to reliability prediction models.
  • Drive reliability analysis modeling throughout design / development process.
  • Monte Carlo simulations for material, process, manufacturing, environment, usage variations.
  • Implement performance testing/life test strategy (HALT/HASS, ESS, ALT, RGT) as appropriate to identify, find, and fix, design/process flaws.
  • Provide critical input to risk management plan for satellite launch, deployment, and operations.

  • MS in Reliability Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience in design for high reliability space systems
  • Previous work experience in electronic package design as well as qualification methodologies for silicon and custom ASIC packages.
