Mechanical Design Engineer (Integration)

Overview:

Our Avionics group works to design, develop, test, analyze and integrate all the electronic hardware and software for our Falcon Rockets and Dragon Spacecraft. The Mechanical Integration Team is specifically responsible for incorporating avionics into all top-level assembly and end-vehicle design. They are also responsible for design, development, and integration of secondary structure across the F9 and Dragon product families.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather design objectives and requirements from the stakeholders of various assemblies
  • Develop packaging/integration solutions that meet requirements while minimizing mass and cost
  • Design and analyze secondary structure, test equipment, and ground support equipment
  • Perform development and qualification testing on secondary structure
  • Troubleshoot production issues during vehicle integration, testing, and launch campaigns

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering 
  • Candidates must have at least 3 years of project experience working as a mechanical engineer designing complex components and assemblies
  • Candidates must have modeling experience with 3D parametric CAD software

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Finite Element Analysis experience (ANSYS or NASTRAN)
  • CAD experience using Unigraphics
  • Strong academic project experience with both technical and project management contribution
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere
  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight
  • Strong work ethic and drive to succeed

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed
