Manager, Procurement - Composites Commodity

The Supply Chain department is responsible for the sourcing, planning, procurement, warehousing, and transportation of all raw materials and components needed to build our revolutionary spacecraft and launch vehicles.  Our mission is to get a quality part in the right place at the right time, every time.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage over $100M spend portfolio for all composite raw materials and component parts (simultaneously achieving goals for cost/quality/delivery requirements)
  • Lead and develop a team of buyers and supplier quality engineers in accordance with an annual operating plan
  • Manage a team that prepares, issues, and analyzes request packages for new product integration, and ongoing production requirements
  • Foster, manage, and maintain supplier partnerships (while monitoring status of work being performed)
  • Ensure any critical or problem suppliers have an improvement plan in place to meet the goals set forth by SpaceX
  • Collaborate with the internal customers to understand project requirements and roadmaps
  • Conduct comprehensive supplier analysis, including strategic direction, market and industry position, capabilities, capacity, and risk management
  • Develop sourcing strategies and decisions based on a variety of factors, including product, operational, strategic, and financial considerations
  • Analyze supplier performance and negotiate contracts and assess supplier relationships
  • Negotiate and implement cost-saving programs with suppliers
  • Issue purchase orders, ensure timely delivery and resolve invoice issues

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, supply chain, or finance
  • 7+ years of experience in purchasing and/or supplier management
  • 2+ years in a supervisory or management role

  • Previous experience in composites (procurement or supplier quality)

Additional Requirements:

  • Travel to suppliers as needed is a function of this position
