SR. SATELLITE SYSTEM INTEGRATION & TEST ENGINEER 

As a system integration & test engineer, you will be responsible for defining and executing all satellite-level integration and test activity. You will help shape the satellite system architecture and vehicle design.  You will lead mechanical and electrical integration operations on the flight satellite vehicles and flight hardware simulators. You will ensure the satellite vehicle is ready for flight through verification of design, integration, and configuration. You will develop the automation capabilities in the areas of both integration and test in order to bring the hardware from engineering to production.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Define requirements, perform cross-team technical trades, and select appropriate path forward always considering cost / technical / schedule.
  • Define system architecture.
  • Define acceptance criteria for the flight satellites.
  • Define and lead satellite integration and test activities.
  • Lead satellite system testbed architecture definition and cross-disciplinary trades.
  • Review test data, lead anomaly investigation and resolution, and verify system test coverage on flight or flight-representative hardware.
  • Create automation software to interact with ATEs, Unit Under Test, instrumentation, and production systems to implement test plan in a fast moving production environment.
  • Assist Design Engineers with Engineering Validation of designs, specification setting, and test line limits using statistical analysis of data and measurement uncertainty analysis.
  • Evangelize and drive Design for Test (DFT) best practices and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) with Design Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers.
  • Develop modular, reusable test architectures for manufacturing test and engineering design verification.
  • Partner with Engineering & Production teams to generate ideas, designs, and improvements for current and next-generation vehicles.
  • Coordinate integration plans, resource requirements, and facilities with system-level test engineering, technicians, and Launch Site Engineering.
  • This is considered a full product lifecycle of ownership, running from requirements definition to having qualified hardware on the vehicle ready to fly.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Undergraduate degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering.
  • 5+ years of work experience.
  • Previous experience in data acquisition systems and hardware in the loop (HITL) simulation test systems.
  • 2+ years of experience in a programing language such as C++, LabVIEW or Python. 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Highly experienced in writing integration procedures at both sub-system and vehicle level.
  • Experienced in leading electrical integration and test operations on rockets, satellites, planetary exploration spacecraft, ships, or aircraft
  • Established knowledge in performance and environmental testing plans for component / sub-system / vehicle level trades (Vibration, Temp cycling, T-Vac, EMC, etc).
  • Experienced with payloads (RF / Optical) - their assembly integration and test at a subsystem level, as well as integration and test at spacecraft level.
  • Experience developing manufacturing operations and building spacecraft / spacecraft subsystems, with ability to scale appropriately for volume production.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following: launch vehicle or spacecraft integration; operations in 100,000 class or better clean rooms; test operations with gases/fluids; data acquisition setup and field measurements.
  • Experience with various manufacturing process developments, facility and line layouts, process failure mode effects analysis, and error proofing.
  • Extensive understanding of instrumentation, interfaces and sensors including DAQ, digital multimeters, power supplies, oscilloscopes, digital IO, Serial-422, switch technologies and topologies, RTDs, thermocouples, and 4-20mA sensors.
  • Extensive experience with Hardware-in-the-loop test equipment, ground support equipment, and automated test scripts.
  • 3Dcad design experience (NX).
  • Knowledge of and experience in analog to digital and digital to analog converters, power supply components and design, analog testing/troubleshooting techniques, and signal integrity, layout and grounding principles
  • Passion for advancing the commercial space industry and human spaceflight.
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up atmosphere.
  • Strong work ethic and drive to succeed. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime and weekends as needed.
