MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (LAUNCH VEHICLE ASSEMBLY)

As a Manufacturing Development Engineer at SpaceX, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. Manufacturing Development Engineers are responsible for the integration of the launch vehicle’s internal assembly. You will have the opportunity to enable increased throughput of existing lines and develop manufacturing methods for new products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and execute build and test procedures for the integration and test of flight hardware and ground support equipment
  • Responsible for vehicle integration build flow and test concept of operations
  • Evaluate proposed designs for manufacturability and integration into the launch vehicle
  • Interface with engineers and technicians to advance to larger scale manufacturing and automation
  • Develop and refine manufacturing assembly procedures based on lessons learned to mature status
  • Responsible for enabling day-to-day execution of the vehicle integration and test flow
  • Manage work orders and driving non-conformances into actionable items and system improvements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical/aerospace engineering or physics
  • 2+ years of collegiate extracurricular engineering project experience, such as Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly Team or 2+ years of industry product design/development experience

 PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:                             

  • Experience with build integration and testing of structure, fluid and/or propulsion systems
  • Experience with hardware test methodologies including pressure proof testing, leak checking and nondestructive evaluation (NDE)
  • Experience with project management
  • Masters of Science in mechanical/chemical/aerospace engineering
  • Experience writing test plans, procedures and providing go/no-go judgment
  • Experience in a production environment within the aerospace industry

 ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This is a hands-on position that may require standing for up to 4 hours a day and working directly with hardware on the floor
  • Must be comfortable stooping, bending, and standing
  • Position may require long hours and weekend work

 ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
