Sr. Manager, Test Fabrication & Support

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and provide daily support of the GSE/Facilities Operations team:
    • Manage a diverse team of fabrication and support teams who specialize in a very broad range of projects and skills
    • Ensure all employees are trained and competent on required tools and equipment
    • Ensure employees have the necessary resources, product, tools and/or equipment
    • Assess employee performance; provide positive and constructive feedback; provide conflict resolution; complete annual performance review process; address performance issues with corrective actions in performance improvement plans or through disciplinary actions
    • Provide leadership by setting an example, being a model, taking input from everyone and deciding how it fits according to our strategic initiatives
    • Identify process improvement and ensure operations are lean, efficient and effective
  • Ensure that fabrication personnel and resources are properly allocated to meet site priority
  • Coordinate site wide facility upgrades and maintenance
  • Communicate priority and schedule within the different Fabrication and Support groups to maximize efficiency
  • Maintain a constant working relationship with engineering to keep up with a continually changing project schedule and daily operational work load
  • Ensure the team is following all necessary regulations and appropriate SpaceX procedures including quality policies, safety policies, OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, NFPA, ASME, NEC, etc. standards
  • Provide leadership, future directional planning, and oversee the Fabrication & Support infrastructure, organizational unit productivity and mission-critical operations
  • Establish direction, leadership, and vision for all decision-making
  • Assist with preparation and administration of site operational expenditures
  • Champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas
  • Evaluate manpower requirements, assess manpower costs & needs
  • Continually seek process improvements, technology improvements, and automation for all teams
  • Provide mentorship and leadership development for leaders within the organization
  • Maintain a positive and healthy work environment and continually promote the SpaceX culture
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience serving in a personnel manager role

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree
  • Management experience with a particular emphasis on strategic planning
  • Knowledge of fluid, structural, thermal, and electrical systems – system design, pitfalls, potential hazards, expected operation, etc.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and make use of resources to get things done effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical manuals, 2D drawings, P&IDs, fluid and electrical schematics and other engineering documentation
  • Knowledge of hazardous systems – cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic, pyrophoric
  • Knowledge of high pressure system design and handling
  • Knowledge of material, concrete, drawing, fluid system, codes and standards (ASME, AISC, ASTM, etc.)
  • Knowledge of welding and machining operations
  • Knowledge of supply chain (material management and material distribution)
  • Knowledge of ERP systems (WarpDrive)
  • Ability to communicate professionally to parties both internal and external to SpaceX
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflict in a calm and diplomatic manner
  • Knowledge of McGregor site infrastructure, product development, and testing operations
  • Intermediate level in Microsoft OneNote, Visio, and Project
  • Intermediate level in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to support and supervise operations outside of normal business hours, when required
  • General physical fitness is required for some work areas
  • Physical effort including standing, lifting and carrying light weight such as materials or equipment (0 to 15 lbs.)
  • Typically exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments – heat, cold, rain
  • Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends
