Information Security Analyst (Security Operations Center)

SpaceX is seeking a Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst to work as a part of the Information Security Team to detect, monitor, and respond to security events, as well as performing proactive identification and detection of anomalous or malicious behavior. This role will be focused in three key areas:

  • Detection and Analysis
    • An Information Security Analyst will perform Network, System, and Application monitoring to ensure security relevant events are identified, triaged, and responded to accordingly.
  • Identification and Communication
    • Having detected and analyzed events, in identifying an incident or anomalous activity, an analyst will be responsible for ensuring the results of that are properly categorized and communicated to the wider organization.
    • This will include collecting and reporting on SOC metrics related to the efficacy of these operations, as well as efficacy of Information Security Tools overall.
  • Containment and Response
    • Having identified an incident or anomalous activity, an Information Security Analyst would be expected to take appropriate actions to ensure that incident was contained (will not have further effect on the organization) as well as that it was properly responded to (actions taken to mitigate the effects of that incident).

This person will be part of a dynamic team that is tasked with rapidly identifying and responding to security threats, delivering on customer requirements to reduce risk and ensure mission success. SpaceX is a fast paced, multi-tasking, highly dynamic work environment with high degrees of autonomy and accountability.


  • Assess, triage and prioritize security alerts from logging and monitoring systems.
  • Identify, triage, and remediate threats based on threat intelligence as well as active analysis of log data.
  • Monitor and manage a ticket queue to ensure all tickets are prioritized and worked accordingly.
  • Operate against a SOC playbook to protect SpaceX people, missions, and assets.
  • Evaluate system/application data and user behavior for adherence to organizational policies and procedures.
  • Apply critical thinking to all activities and actions, in pursuit of SpaceX and Information Security goals.
  • Identify, investigate and communicate risks based on internal and external threat
  • Assess newly published vulnerabilities and attacker Tactics, Techniques and Procedures (TTPs) to identify possible defensive measures to identify and stop threat actors.
  • Drive internal reporting of threats and internal findings from investigations and incidents.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, security, computer science or a related technical field of study.
  • 1+ years of professional or intern experience in information security areas such as threat hunting, incident response, forensics, security analysis, security engineering, etc.
  • Knowledge of operating system internals and security controls such as Linux and/or Windows
  • Knowledge of regular expressions or at least one scripting language (e.g. Python, Bash or PowerShell).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with ELK, Splunk or other SEIMs.
  • Working knowledge/experience with ELK/Kibana a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Network TCP/IP protocols and
  • Experience correlating data across a variety of log types and event feeds including Client systems, Applications, Network Devices, and Security Tools.
  • Experience with malware analysis and broader system forensics.
  • Demonstrable track record of getting things done quickly with high quality, self starter and self directed.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • CISSP or equivalent certification.
