Space Suit Development & Test Engineer

Responsibilities 

  • Perform day-to-day development and testing of the space suit and space suit elements
  • Create and execute detailed test plans to support suit and human-in-the-loop development testing
  • Communicate results verbally and through written reports
  • Document, troubleshoot, and propose solutions to anomalies and issues discovered during development
  • Perform integration with other crew systems that interface with space suits, including seats, environmental controls and life support, search and rescue equipment, communications, and displays and controls.
  • Prepare space suit qualification and acceptance test plans and procedures

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and conducting tests, including use of test instrumentation and control components
  • Experience designing and testing structural and/or fluid systems
  • Experience using Unigraphics or related CAD software

 
Preferred Skills

  • Ability to conduct detailed technical and cost trades for spacesuit systems.
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of both historical and developmental spacesuit designs.
  • Familiarity with fluid systems and components
  • Innovative and creative but also achievable design philosophy.
  • Technical experience with other crew systems and equipment.
  • Must be self-motivated with strong organizational and written & oral communication skills.

 
ITAR Requirements

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
