Launch Success and First Stage Landing!
Today, Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) successfully launched its Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft to orbit, carrying supplies and science experiments to the International Space Station. This marks the company’s third official mission under its $1.6B Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) contract with NASA and ninth consecutive successful flight for Falcon 9.
The Dragon spacecraft is safely on its way to the International Space Station and expected to berth with the station on Sunday, April 20th at approximately 7:14 a.m. ET.
In addition, the data upload from SpaceX's tracking plane shows the first stage landing in Atlantic was good! Flight computers continued transmitting for 8 seconds after reaching the water and stopped when the booster went horizontal. Several boats enroute through heavy seas--we will continue to provide additional updates as information becomes available.
