SpaceX astronaut

The suit

SpaceX suit background-gradient

3-D Printed Helmet

The 3-D printed helmet with customized padding houses microphones for communication and valves that regulate the suit’s pressure systems.

Visor

Designed to provide a large field of view and rotates open.

Touchscreen Compatible Gloves

The gloves are designed for easy use when the suit is pressurized and with the ability to operate Dragon’s touchscreens.

Outer Layer

The space suit’s outer layer is made with flame-resistant materials. Gray parts are different versions of Nomex and the white material is a Teflon fabric.

Quick Disconnect

A single connection point between the suit and vehicle provides the life support system for the astronauts: avionics for communications, cooling systems, and pressurization of the suit, all via an easy-to-use plug-in.

Zippers

Zippers on the wrist allow astronauts to use their bare hands on the controls when appropriate. Zippers also run inside a seam inside the legs, from one ankle to the other, which is where the crew gets into and out of the suit.

The Vehicles

Dragon

The Dragon spacecraft is capable of carrying up to 7 passengers to and from Earth orbit and beyond. It is the only spacecraft currently flying that is capable of returning significant amounts of cargo to Earth, and is the first private spacecraft to take humans to the space station.

Starship

Starship

Starship is the fully reusable spacecraft and second stage of the Starship system. The vehicle offers an integrated payload section and is capable of carrying passengers and cargo to Earth orbit, planetary destinations, and between destinations on Earth.
